apple to bed ???

while i was thinking of how to do management individual assignment , i do recall some memories though it happened one year ago..

Back then, i was in my form 6 life at STK Kluang. We were having our our "Tekmenso" "Teknik Menjawab Soalan STPM" on April 07' .

Then me and my gang sat at the last row chit chatting. Then Rachel one of my besties suggested that we play game.. where it started from Apple ..

apple -> sweet -> candy -> colourful -> rainbow -> rain -> cold -> clothes -> ESPRIT -> expensive -> money -> shopping -> Singapore -> Orchard Road -> shopping mall -> girls ->
period -> pad -> Kotex -> Night safe -> Sleep -> bed ... and so on...

From this game we have used the word association technique.
my besties !! the girls ooishee, joyce, me, joey , rachel , daniel (left) kah arng(our senior)

jacky n lihuei our senior too..

my besties !! from left : me, joey, rachel, joyce, ooi shee

spite ! spite !! spite !!!

of course we don't do this when we go FIT . If not....

today while i was accompanying my boyfriend to see his advisor ...

me : hey .... look at the time is 2.53p.m alrd...and we're now at FCM only.... i thought u got an appoinment at 3 p.m ?

wen mau : ya... u asked the third time alrd... so what ?

me : hur ?? i thought u got to be punctual when u need to see your advisor don't you ??

wen mau : yeah ~~ but you know.. last week i waited for her about an hour outside her room..but no one replied me ! then i have to go back to hostel to e-mail her again .. U
know one la.... from FIT to guy hostel very far de leh ~ now only 2.50p.m won't late
de la .... even late for 1 minute also can't compare to how long i wait for her last week
lor....(ad populum appeal to spite)

from the conversation wen mau has used ad populum appeal to spite . He is not in rush to see his advisor because he thinks that even he's late for a minute can't compared to what he has waited for his advisor for an hour last week eventhough he has make the appoinment earlier.

I'm lovin it ~

from the advertisement above

the conclusion is : McDonald's is operating for 24 hours

Premise 1 : Wherever we are at any hour, we can enjoy our favourite McDonald's meal

Premise 2 : Any time is a good time to enjoy McDonald's

La Tomatina, Bunyol, Valencia, Spain

Have you heard about the tomato festival ? ? As i browse the yahoo webpage today i saw this article about Tomatina :

La Tomatina festival in Spain gives new meaning to the expression 'playing with your food'. For most of the year Bunol is a ho-hum industrial town, 40km (25mi) from Valencia, quietly going about its own business. But come the last Wednesday of August, the town's streets turns into a salsa riot, with over 20,000 revellers pelting each other with large, red, squishy tomatoes. There are lots of theories on how the festival started; one is that it began in 1945 with anti-Franco protests, although any link between Franco and tomatoes remains ambigous. Another theory is that it started when two friends had a stand-up knock-down argument while sharing a meal. The argument quickly reached food-throwing proportions, infected acquaintances and nearby diners, moved out into the street, spread through the suburbs, progressed to neighbouring towns and eventually wound up as an annual event that attracted 'mata throwers from all corners of the the world. The most likely explanation is that it started as a juvenile class war between bare-footed Troskyist macarras and el-ivy leaguers staying at Papa's summer house, the latter passing the former in a provocative way - that is to say, within tomato-throwing range. Like gangs of adolescents anywhere, it soon became a point of honour and a mark of tribal loyalty to make a stand at the tomato-stained barriers. As the event turned into a national event it lost its hostile political edge and became, instead, an unbridled Dionysian riot of flesh-baring bodies covered head to toe in tomato goo.The standard uniform is an old T-shirt, old shorts and eye goggles. T-shirts with bullseyes printed on them are not recommended. Nearly 140 tons of tomatoes are trucked in from around the countryside and the argy-bargy begins with the firing of a rocket. An hour later the end of the festival is announced with the firing of another rocket and the clean up of the tomato-slimed streets begin. What is La Tomatina? The Tomatina is only one of the celebration of a week long festival with musical bands, fireworks, food, and over all fun. This is a war were there are expected to be no winners, but where all have fun.

From this article i've thought that if you're living in Spain the spanish will eventually invite us to the La Tomatina festival because they will think that if you're livinf in Spain so you must follows the tradition of Spain. Hence the ad populum Appeal to Tradition has occur.

simile and metaphor ~

Flint

An emerald is as green as grass,
A ruby red as blood;
A sapphire shines as blue as heaven;
A flintlies in the mud.

A diamond is a brilliant stone,
To catch the world's desire;
An opal holds a fiery spark;
But a flint holds a fire.

by Christina Rossetti 1830-1894
Incendiary
That one small boy with a face like pallid cheese
And burnt-out little eyes could make a blaze
As brazen, fierce and huge, as red and gold
And zany yellow as the one that spoiled
Three thousand guineas' worth of property
And crops at Godwin's Farm on Saturday
Is frightening---as fact and metaphor:
An ordinary match intended for
The lighting of a pipe or kitchen fire
Misused may set a whole menagerie
Of flame-fanged tigers roaring hungrily.
And frightening, too, that one small boy should set
The sky on fire and choke the stars to heat
Such skinny limbs and such a little heart
Which would have been content with one warm kiss
Had there been anyone to offer this.
by Vernon Scannell
From the poem Flint by Christina Rossetti the poet has used the simile concept where the usage of the word "as..as"
whereas from the Incendiary by Vernon Scannell the metaphor concept has been used. for example "That one small boy with a face like pallid cheese '' and "And burnt-out little eyes could make a blaze " etc..
from critical thinking simile is
•A simile is a special form of comparison – where you compare the current subject, object or action to some other idea that creates an image.
•It usually takes the form:
–“as ___ as ___”
–“like ___”
–“___ than ____”
while metaphors is
•A metaphor is a part of a sentence that creates a comparative image in your mind, without using comparative qualifiers.

A comparative relationship between sisters ~

i've receive a call from my sis (ming mei) just now ..

and i thought of making a little comparison between Michelle and ming mei here ..

me and ming mei

above (michelle) , below (ming mei)
well don't get cheated by this girl here..
she's not that angelic as u think..
haha...

well ming mei is now 17 and michelle 20 (though the diferrence is only 3 years)

physically..
she is tall ..YES ! i mean she is TALL 178cm while michelle is only 160cm
therefore everytime when we go out together those aunty will say that i'm her younger sister... ^^
she got natural straight hair , but mine is natural curly
bigger eyes than me
long and curl eye lashes , mine is short and curly (a different genetic traits from our parents)^^
she got a darker complexion than i do...

she is school athlete and active in school activities while i don't like outdoor sports..
she can handle big event than i do (president of interact club, secretary of red cresent , president of "pusat sumber" club, president of volley ball club) and i used to hold only secretary post in volley ball club
she is smart(compared to my ex secondary results)

i love shopping , she hates shopping (weird ~ i thought every girl would love to shop) ^^
i hates housechores ,she doesn't ..

well i think that the only some of the difference between me and ming mei though we came out from the same womb..^^

we were very noisy when we took this picture.. even my mum can't stand both of us..and we unaccidentally wake our second sis up while she's still sleeping upstairs..
hahaha... :P

oh ...... she's sneaking at my ass !! haa.....

Feel hurt ~~

After i've purchase my new wallet at RM 45 which i consider cheap...
One of my friend asked me what i've bought just now ..

Friend : What have u bought michelle ??
Me : erm.. a wallet ...
Friend : i guess it should be around 10 or 20 plus ??
Me : nope.... is RM 45
Friend : Wah !!! So ex ??? beat me till death also i won't buy so ex wallet ..
Me : ......

From the conversation between me and my friend , i think she's using ad hominem fallacy

In dilemma ~

i went sunway pyramid last night and decided to shop for wallet....
then i went into this shop where they sell adidas , three point six zero and disney stuff...
at first it didnt approach me that i'll be buying my wallet there ..
while i was looking at this mickey mouse bag.. winny show me a white wallet...
i like that wallet because of the colour and decide to purchase that ..
then i went to search for the sales girl there and accidentally saw another wallet...
i like the design too.. and the colour won't easily get dirty ..
then ....
i was in dilemma on which one to purchase ..
the white one .. i like the colour very much ...
the brown one...have more space for cards and doesn't get dirty easily..

In this case ad populum Fallacy of False Dilemma has been used .

Money Still Not Enough

I watch this movie last night with wen mau and all his cousin..
there's this part where the old lady mother to 3 sons (Ah Hui, Ah liang, Ah Huang) got Alzheimer disease and her 3 sons is taking their turn to take care of their mother ..
There's this part where it is Ah huang turns to take care of his mother...
So, during that night .. while his son is sleeping she sat beside him....Ah huang got frightened by his mother and ask her what has happen ..
she asked his son.. have he seen her red bra with mickey mouse on it ..
then his son replied "A red bra wih mickey mouse ?? No la.. you didnt bring along when u come here ... "
but the old granny insisted and say " ar..... i want to find my red bra... a huang ar... have u seen my bra ?? without it i can't get to sleep... find my bra for me.."
then ah huang get so frustrated and search the whole luggage...while the old granny stand still looking at his son searching her bra for her...
then she suddenly pull her shirt and look " Ah ~~ i'm wearing my red bra ... i found my red bra .. "
ah huang get even more frustrated and went back to sleep..
then she come again to ah huang...
"why are you here again ?? " said ah huang
"i can't find my black bra ... i want my black bra... without it i can't get to sleep ..."said the old grany
then ah huang said " ma...why must you wear bra ??? "
and that's the ending of the scene ..

In this case , slippery slope is used where without the red or black bra the old granny couldn't get to sleep...

a black one ??

or a red one ??

i assumed that.. but it turn out to be different...

Last week (26-28 August) as everyone in MMU knows that there's a blood donation drive going on..So on Thursday me and my bf Wen mau plan to go for a blood donation on Thursday after our class..
Before i was there i thought there will be less people donating their blood as thursday is the last day for the blood donation drive..But, as i and my friend reach there we saw a lot of ppl waiting for their turn to check their blood type..
Well, i took mine too.. hehe..My blood type is B and my friend's is O..
And so we waited at FIT CR1001, i thought soon will be our turn..but we waited for an hour and finally we can donate our blood !
So, they began to poke my right hand and finally finish one packet of blood approximately 15 minutes as my blood flow out quite slow compare to wen mau's one...
Then he advice that i should take a rest first before we go to FIT to look for his advisor..but i told him that i was fine..so we walk to the lift..soon i saw tiny black polka dots...and i told wen mau that i'm feeling dizzy..i scare to move my body as i scare that i will faint..cos i've experienced this before when i got Dengue early 2008..
So i sat down for a moment and those black polka dots gone..i thought that i'm fine and we went up to search for advisor..later... i feel so warm and even more dizzy...
after 20 minutes of resting i finally manage to walk back to my room...
another thing that i assumed is ... after the blood donation my hand turn blue black..i assumed that it will be fine the next day.. but who knows it's became worse .. the blue back now turn to purple black.. and now i'm wondering...when can it subsides....
From this .. i can say that i was making assumption that :
  1. During the Thursday Blood Donation Drive there won't be a lot of people at FIT CR1001
  2. It'll be soon to be our turn for donating our blood
  3. I won't feel dizzy after the blood donation
  4. My hand will heal the next day after i've donated my blood

My hand on Friday that was fine right ??

wuwu ~~ this is on Saturday night.. it's worsen !!

don't sleep back ar....

this weekend ..
though it isn't a very long holiday due to our national day ..
so me and my boyfriend plan to stay our at his aunt house..
so...
this morning ..
around 10.40a.m..
he came over to my room..
looking so sleepy and tried to wake me up...
then he pull me up from my bed and he sat next to my bed..
as i wanted to lie back to bed continue sleeping..
he said while he's trying to sleep " Don't sleep back ar.. Wake up now.. "
but he is also trying to sleep back again..
from our conversation i can see Tu Quoque fallacy occurs..

Rabbits grow bionic knees..

Researchers used a synthetic scaffold seeded with ligament cells to regenerate damaged knee tissue (Image: iStockphoto)

Human Knee

Well , rabbit is cute isn't it ?

But from past one year there's researchers from US studies uses bioengineering to help repair torn knee ligaments where it is a common type of sports injury. In preliminary studies, the investigators engineered new tissue in the damaged ligaments of rabbits in just 12 weeks. The hope is that if the approach works in humans, it could accelerate recovery times. The researchers used a synthetic scaffold seeded with ligament cells to regenerate the new tissue in the damaged anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of rabbits. The bunnies were able to begin bearing weight on their knees 24 hours after surgery, and by the end of the 12-week experiment, the animals had fresh collagen and blood vessels growing in the damaged area.

"It is my hope that these studies will lead to a revolutionary new treatment strategy for patients suffering from ACL tears," says Cato Laurencin, a professor of orthopaedic surgery and biomedical engineering at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville who led the study. The ACL is the stabilising ligament that connects the thighbone to the leg bone. It unravels like a plait when ruptured, making healing difficult.

In humans, the standard treatment for this is reconstructive surgery. Surgeons remove healthy tissue from tendons around the knee and graft it onto the damaged ligament to regenerate it.But it can take five to six months for a full recovery, and surgeons would prefer not to harvest healthy tissue if possible. Researchers have tried to craft ligament-like scaffolds to help the healing process before, but success has been limited. This is the first time that researchers have combined synthetic materials with ACL cells and been able to substantially engineer new ligament tissue.

In addition to the 'biomimetic' scaffold, which combines synthetic materials with animal cells, the researchers also tested a purely synthetic scaffold. But the healing process with this device was slower. Further tests will be required to determine the value of this approach. However, the results of this preliminary study indicate it could be a promising ligament replacement therapy, which could potentially speed up the recovery process, Laurencin says.

From this article we can know that the researchers is using bionic technique to repair the torn knee ligament. Although it hasn't been successful yet, the researchers is trying to look for relationships between problems and solution that occur in rabbits which is much similiar with our torn knee ligament.
